| This time the experiment crashed upon our team, as after the finding of the stone a storm broke out. Worms came creeping out and most members of the team got sick. Listen here to an eyewitness account by one of the scientists after just barely surving what one of them called 'worse than a nightmare' ...

So why the worms and why the mysterious disease? Although these phenomena shed some light on the reasons of the hitherto not verry well understood evacuations some forty years ago, questions abound as to their origin. The most likely explanation would be, that original inhabitants of the Blaskets came from overseas, that is, from Iceland or Greenland even. Unknowingly, they must have brought the worms and the disease with them. Of course the islanders themselves had already grown immune to them in their homeland, but not so for our visting mission team. So, this 'wormridden stone' could turn the whole story of the inhabitation of Europe upside down! Yet, all the other explanations, like a CIA driven biological warfare experiment, or mutating micro-organisms because of the breakdown of the ozon-layer, are all very much more far-fetched. Apply Occam's Razor here, and you will see. |
